Euclid was recently announced as one of four awardees for the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission (County Planning) Community Planning Grant Program. From this award, Euclid will receive professional planning services from County Planning to develop a citywide active transportation plan.

“Our active transportation plan will serve as a master place for non-vehicle modes of transportation citywide- outlining the vision, goals and action steps needed to support increased walking, bicycling and other active modes of transportation,” said Planning and Development Director Patrick Grogan-Myers. “The plan will focus on connecting the numerous community assets around the City from the Euclid Creek Reservation, Sims Park, and the Lakefront Trail to Hero Park, Downtown Euclid, schools, and business districts.”

Euclid submitted this idea to County Planning against a total of 14 other communities and was chosen as an awardee alongside Fairview Park, Lakewood and Warrensville Heights who offered master plans for park improvements (Lakewood and Warrensville Heights) and business revitalization (Fairview Park).

This transportation plan proves critical for transportation equity and quality of life for Euclid’s residents. According to research conducted for our City of Euclid Master Plan in 2014 16.3% of Euclid households owned no vehicle and 48.1% owned only 1 vehicle. By 2019, US Census Data shows that 19.0% of households owned no vehicle and 45.3% owned only 1 vehicle. The City has seen consistent growth in the percentage of people who commute by public transportation or walking, moving upwards from 7.5% in 2014 to 8.79% in 2019.

“Having a transportation system that recognizes the large and growing population that takes public transportation or walks is important for an equitable quality of life,” said Grogan-Myers.

More details on Euclid’s active transportation plan will be available in 2023. Please visit www.cityofeuclid.com for the most up-to-date information on this or any of Euclid’s current projects
