Sophomores Learn About Heights CTE Programs in Classroom Tours | Cleveland Heights High School

Scheduling for the 2023-2024 school year takes place when Heights High students get back from Winter Recess in January and it is important for students to be aware of all of the course options that are available to them. Being informed on the variety of two-year CTE programs that are offered is especially vital for students in the Class of 2025 who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in an industry that they want to pursue a career in.

On Friday, December 16 sophomores learned about the nine Career Tech programs that are offered at Cleveland Heights High School through classroom tours. The CTE program tours took place throughout the day during the 10th graders’ science classes and allowed the students to get a sneak peek of what they would learn and experience if they decided to sign up for the Heights Career Tech Consortium.

Led by student ambassadors, the 10th graders were able to learn more about the courses and hands-on experiences that are offered in each program as well as the career and industry accreditation that could be available upon graduation. The students asked the instructors and current CTE program students questions about their experiences with the programs, projects that they were currently working on, and careers that the CTE students are planning to pursue.

"The Heights CTE programs offer college credits, industry recognized credentials and a head start into students' chosen career paths,” says Michelle Philips, the Career Development Coordinator for Heights Career Tech.

The Heights Career Tech programs are offered to 11th and 12th graders and provide students with hands-on experience in one of twenty-two career paths. "Each CTE program is a two year commitment,” Phelps explains, “which prepares students who want to go directly into the workforce after high school graduation, as well as those who plan to attend college. It's a win for everyone!"

The application for 10th grade students interested in a CTE program is now available and must be submitted before the end of January. The Heights Career Tech Consortium highly encourages students to submit their applications over Winter Recess.

Students can learn more about the CTE programs and submit their applications on the Heights Career Tech Consortium website.
