Due to the limited number of resumes received for the open seat Ward 3 Councilor, the City Council of East Cleveland has extended the submission date for bios/resumes from interested candidates in filling one upcoming vacancy for Ward 3.
The NEW deadline for submission is THURSDAY, December 1, by 4:30 p.m.
The unexpired term for this seat is from November 28, 2022 - December 31, 2025. The candidate selected will campaign in the normal election period at the close of the unexpired term in order to retain the seat as City Council Member for an additional four-year term. East Cleveland City Council is acting aggressively to begin the review and vetting process. The following minimum qualifications are required and/or recommended pursuant to the City Charter, Ohio Revised Codes, and General Human Resource Standards.
CITY COUNCIL MEMBER OPENING-WARD 3
Minimum Background
- Be a resident of East Cleveland for at least one year prior to the appointment
- Be a qualified registered voter (elector) and U.S. Citizen
- Not have been convicted of infamous and certain other crimes such as gross misconduct, malfeasance, felonies, bribery, fraud-related convictions, and moral turpitude
- Minimum high school diploma/ equivalent or beyond
- Ability to work effectively as a team player and collaborator
- Knowledgeable about the present state of East Cleveland
- Extensive reading and comprehension of detailed documents required
- Public relations among community leadership and residents
- Policy and procedure development
- Understands municipal administration
- Have a flexible schedule and attend evening meetings
- Computer/smartphone literate
- Review and execute City Charter rules, Sunshine Laws, and Robert’s Rules of Order
- Identify and discuss issues impacting residents and the city
- Researches, reads, and reviews materials affecting legislation and policy
- Actively participates in discussions at all meetings and implements governing rules
- Works collaboratively with other members, departments, and administration to address concerns of the public and ensure resolution and solutions
- Attends required trainings for new public officials
- Participates in budget and fiscal proceedings and subcommittees
- Recommends and exercise votes in the legislative process
100 VACANCY.
When the office of a member of Council shall become vacant, the vacancy shall be filled by election for the unexpired term by a majority vote of all the remaining members of the Council. If the Council fails within 30 days to fill such a vacancy, the President of Council shall fill it by appointment.
