Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District recently issued the following announcement.
During the Fall semester, GEAR UP 2 New Heights held a 5-week Financial Literacy Workshop conducted by Jason Lockett Sr., Owner of The Breadwinners LLC. Students learned key concepts in personal credit, budgeting, investing, and creating short and long-term savings goals. Throughout the program, students were given opportunities to display their learning from week to week.
At the conclusion of the program, students presented a short-term savings goal and a plan to reach that goal. Each student participant received a $50 check to put towards their short-term savings goal. Junior Tiana Crosby received the Heights Driving School Scholarship for her consistent attendance and active participation. There were five students who completed the entire program.
GEAR UP also held a 4-month Financial Literacy Workshop for parents. Parents learned key concepts in personal credit, budgeting, college savings accounts, investing, retirement accounts, and how to create short and long-term savings goals. At the conclusion of the program, parents who completed the program received a $200 check to put towards their student's college enrollment fees.
