East Cleveland City Schools issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.
Congratulations to Shaw student athlete Roderic W. for earning Ohio Divison IV Defensive Player of the Year! #IamEC
A 24-sack season netted All-Ohio Defensive Player of the Year honors for Shaw senior Roderic Williams.
Williams helped Shaw (5-3), which had not made the playoffs since 2011, reach the third round of the OHSAA Division IV playoffs. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior also had 80 tackles, six forced fumbles, three recoveries, an interception and eight pass deflections.
